[quote:c48bc02574="MO FO"] TITANIC WAS A SHIP, THAT SAILD ACROSS THE OCEAN, AND HIT AN ICE BERG IN THE ATLATIC OCEAN. IT SOONER SANK TO THE BOTTOM OF SEA, AND LOTS OF MEN DIED. BUT, LADIES HOWEVER GOT TO SURVIVE, BECAUSE OF SEXIST LIFEBOATS THAT COULD ONLY HOLD BREASTS. I NOW KNOW THAT TITANIC SANK BECAUSE IT WAS SO SEXIST TOWARDS WOMEN. ALL MEN MUST DROWN THEY THOUGHT, AND THAT THEN IS WHAT HAPPENED.[/quote:c48bc02574]

I want to focus on your post specifically. Although women and children were allowed to get on a lifeboat first, it doesn't mean that NO male was saved by a lifeboat.

At this time, men were still considered to be more important than women because they went to work, while women would bring up their children. I think that is right, anyway

Also, at this time, women were thought to be a lot weaker than male and thought that more people would survive if most of the women got on a lifeboat to begin with.

I'm just a Moderator, not a Historian, so don't blame me if I'm wrong :D

The CORRECT reason to the question is:

Different classes were affected in these times, hence the 'First Class' people having their own part of the ship. Further more, the 'First Class' people were near the top of the ship, whereas the 'Third Class' people were at the bottom. 'Second Class' people were in the middle, of course.

sorry squall but your incorrect.
the first class passengers had cabins on decks A,B,C,D and E.
second class passengers had cabins on E and F
third class passengers had cabins on F and G deck.

also, although none of the postal clerks survived, two bodies were recovered. the mail room was on G deck and at the bow of the ship so it was undisturbed by the break-up. if no postal clerks had gotten to the boat deck, then no bodies would have been recovered.

regarding the third class passengers, steward John Hart was given instructions to go to the third class areas and escort people up to the boat deck. on his first trip he came back with some 55 women and children, however he stated that on the second trip, passengers were reluctant to leave their cabins and a great many of them would not get out of bed.

if you look at the number of men saved, you'll find that there were more third class men saved than first, or second.
men saved= first class= 54, scond class= 15, third class= 69.
nearly all of the third class passengers who were recovered were undamged, which suggests that they got up on deck, a large number of passengers didnt want to leave, after all Titanic was a massive ship and the life boats were tiny compared to her so they thought they would be safer on titanic. or they didnt speak english and didnt know what was happening.

No offence but I did state your top point.

Further more, what was incorrect? As far as I am concerned I did NOT use deck names, such as "Deck E"

Do you not know how to quote on Message Boards? There's a little 'button' at the top of someones post titled 'Quote'. If you click that it will go to the "Reply" screen with their post laid out correctly for you. You then type under the text '

It would be really good if you coul do that, it makes it so much more clearer!!!

I'd have to agree about the sexist theory. HOWEVER...I veiw it more as being society. Back then, society didn't usually allow married men and women to sleep in the same bed. In the same room maybe, but different beds. I think it was more a social veiw that women are frail creatures and needed assistance surviving, thus they, along with children ( but who can honestly argue children getting priority) got top priority over lifeboat arrangements. They thought men were DOMINANT and could survive ANYTHING
The class issue is the same thing. Now we find classes stupid, but back then that's what they believed. They honestly believed 1st class was better than everyone else. 2nd class was okay, and 3rd....well... 'nuff said. I honestly did hear on a documentary ( which one I forget) that officers were ordered to lock all gates permitting 3rd class passengers from entering decks above them to allow them to reach a lifeboat. However, some very caring officers coudn't do this ( and thank god) unlocked some gates and escourted people to the boat deck, and a great few even helped some 3rd class passengers into boats.
But who knows, I could be worng....lol
