Don't think Titanic could of made it to the calafornian, however calafornian may have been able to tell she was sinking if Titanic was that little bit closer

Good point bell. According to testimony from the crew of the Californian, a ship was seen firing white rockets and then appeared to steam-off, dissapear over the horizon. Maybe if she was just a few miles closer to the Californian like you mentioned. They might have noticed the Titanic sinking and not merely dissapearing over the horizon.

That is true, those men must have had a large cross to bear for the remainder of there year's, know knowing what happened and that they could of helped. But we often look back and say what should have been done, but hindsight is not going to change what happened.

Excellent point bell. I suppose had it not been for that iceberg, we all would probably not be chatting on this forum today. Forgive me if this sounds rather insensitive. The good thing about the tragedy is that it is bringing people together through forums and discussions. Remarkable to think that it has continued to capture everyone's imagination since 1912.

Yeah that is true, I suppose Ironically it was a good thing that Titanic wen't down, I mean if an even larger ship with more people wen't down then it would of been far worce. I've mantained that Titanic was an accident waiting to happen.

Some ppl think that the term " the unsinkable ship" cursed the titanic and therefore made it sink

that is true, but I don't think Titanic was ever said to be unsinkable. Smith said Olympic was unsinkable, he did not mention Titanic, as far as I know. Perhaps it was just asumed to be the same.

Please see the table of contents on my website:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Carpathia

The specific page pertaining to the "unsinkable" question is titled "How the Titanic Became Unsinkable." Contrary to popular myth, the Titanic and Olympic *both* had a word-of-mouth reputation for unsinkability that was promoted by Captain Smith himself (among others.)

back in those days steel was the only powerful alloy that they had to make the ship. In the present we have much stronger metals to make ships.

they said it was unsinkable because they thought that nothing could penetrate the steel that they made
