I highly doubt the salvors would put the book on display. The prospect of selling it and making money from it would be a more appealing deal to them. And selling it in the quiet sounds like something Titanic Inc. would do. It is clear to all that the company has some money problems. Selling the book and other hi-valued artifacts to a rich private collector is something highly probable in my opinion. Many valuable paintings have been stolen in the past just because collectors want to add it to their collections. Did anyone see Entrapment for example? Hey it could happen in real life too ya know...

A near-priceless book that was onboard the Titanic when it sank in 1912. It was a copy of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam which had a leather-bound cover which had an image of a peacock on the front made out of rubies and emeralds. The book must still be down there...or at least the rubies and emeralds.

That is an excellent question edward9139. No one has any record of who actually had the book at the time of the sinking. It is presumed that the book must still be in the purser's office on C-Deck. But we will never know. Then again: never say never...

Wouldn't it be the ultimate discovery if they did find the location of the book's jewels? The great question remains though. Should they leave it there or return it to the survace? I think it should stay there. At least the book is one thing the Titanic is not yet ready to part with...good for her. Titanic rules!

I'd say maybe look at it first, examine it i mean, but not keep it, then when we are finished with it we can carefully place it back down there again.
