Has there been a ship built since which is bigger than the titanic was?

There have been many bigger ocean liners built after the [i:40c62a4ec2]Titanic[/i:40c62a4ec2] foundered in 1912. The first to be slightly larger was Cunard Lines' [i:40c62a4ec2]Aquitania[/i:40c62a4ec2], which was about 20 feet longer and displaced several more thousand tons(901 and 49,000+.) The [i:40c62a4ec2]Titanic[/i:40c62a4ec2] still actually grossed more weight. The Cunard liner[i:40c62a4ec2] Berengaria [/i:40c62a4ec2](ex-German[i:40c62a4ec2] Imperator[/i:40c62a4ec2]) was the first to reach 50,000 plus gross tonnage.

After that there was the [i:40c62a4ec2]Leviathan [/i:40c62a4ec2]and the [i:40c62a4ec2]United States [/i:40c62a4ec2]under the American flag, the [i:40c62a4ec2]Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth [/i:40c62a4ec2]under the British flag, and Germany had their [i:40c62a4ec2]Bremen[/i:40c62a4ec2], and [i:40c62a4ec2]Europa [/i:40c62a4ec2]sister ships. Many of the current cruise ships outsize the [i:40c62a4ec2]Titanic[/i:40c62a4ec2] as well, including, the [i:40c62a4ec2]QE2, Norway[/i:40c62a4ec2], and many of the mega cruise ships from Royal Caribbean, Princess and Carnival Cruise Lines. I believe the largest cruise ship today is the [i:40c62a4ec2]Explorer of the Seas[/i:40c62a4ec2](RCCL) which is an incredible 138,000 gross tons; bigger than some aircraft carrier and oil tankers!

Many of the cruise ships today with the except of the QE2 don't really count as ocean liners since that is technically a vessel that makes a transatlantic crossing with the point of delivering the passengers and it's mail/load as more quickly than a cruising. Cruise ships are those that cruise to several ports of call and stop for several days. The most popular ocean liners of yesteryear traveled the North Atlantic.

Be on the lookout for Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 coming in 2004. The plan is to make her the largest passenger ship to date at 150,000 tons.

Titanic's sister Britannic is slightly larger than her and is now the largest liner on the ocean floor.
The German ship Imperator (I think) was larger than Titanic and she was launched in the week that Titanic sunk.

The new British Cunard ship, Queen Mary 2 is more than twice the size of Titanic and is the largest ship in the world.

Wasn't 'Aquitania' the former 'Imperator'?
