Sealord, if Titanic had capsized how much time would she have had before sinking?

Killian,

Since the Titanic took about 2 hours and 40 minutes to sink without capsizing, I would guess that if it had capsized, it would have sunk in about 45 minutes, depending upon how many hull doors, hatches and portholes were open or not secured at the time.

i don't know if i'd want to leave her that early. the water was only 28º...enough to knock you out within a half an hour and then kill you. and if you've never been able to swim that's the worst place to go because you'll get sucked under even farther.

You brought up a very good point about the water temperature. At that temperature, the survival for complete immersion is less than 45 minutes depending upon cetain elements. Here are some cold water survival facts:

1 - Large body types survive longer than small body types.
2 - Fatter body types survive longer than slimmer body types.
3 - Adults survive longer than children.
4 - People remaing motionless survive longer than people who move around (treading water, swimming).
5 - People who huddle together survive longer than people alone.
6 - People curled up in a fetal position survive longer than people stretched out in a normal stance position.

how does that work out, because if you are moving around, the blood is passing throught the body which warms you up.

Darn it TitanicExprt. Try this: After the iceberg hit, passengers felt a strange -----ng.

Fill in the blanks.

Killian,

P.S. Does anyone know the answer to my previous question, the one about Eva Hart?

Many first and second class passengers felt only a faint grinding jar, some third class passengers were thrown from their beds. Some also felt a slight swaying motion.

The rate of body heat loss is directly related to the amount of body exposure. The more body surface (skin) that is in contact with the water, the faster the loss of body heat. A person looses body heat 32 times faster when exposed to cold water than to cold air.

Swimming and treading water can decrease your cold water survival time by 50% or more. Your arms and legs are spread out, thereby exposing more body surface to the cold water. Also, this activity causes your warm blood to flow throughout your body. Sure this will warm up your limbs, but for how long? Remember, you are taking away valuable body heat from your inner body core (vital organs) to heat up your arms and legs. Inactivity will allow you to accomplish the same thing without robbing your inner body core of life-sustaining heat. If you keep your legs together, then you can't loose body heat from the inside portion of your legs. If you keep your elbows against your sides, you prevent heat loss from that area. If you keep your arms folded, you prevent body heat loss from the parts that are in contact with each other.

There is a lot more cold energy in the ocean than heat energy in your body and blood. So guess who will run out of energy first? You cannot stop the loss of body heat. But you can slow it down to extend your survival.

The Answer Is:

If the water tight doors were not cloased the titanic would of capsised and sank 40 minutes earlier, although the tilting would not be their the ship would of had a strong list making in imposible to launch the life boats and also the water would of spread more quickly on the bottom levels of the ship where the boilers were & the men were working hard trying to keep the power on meaning the titanic would face a great panic in darknes with no life boats at all makeng the disaster far far far worse than it was. This Was Proven In 1996 when a documentary called Titanic Secrets Revealed, tried sinking an exact miniture scale model ship in a number of ways with water tight doors open closed etc the only thing that would of changed is the fact that the titanic would not of broken apart as she did.

This investigation was carried out because many people said that Murdock had carried out the wrong commands thankfully it is porven he done the right thing here although it was in his command that she hit the berg to start with.
This Documentary is a very good one and reveals a lot of information it is hoast by Bearnard Hill (the character who played Captain Smith in Camerons Film)
