It never really says in the movie how old Cal is, but when Billy Zane made the movie he was 31. Let's say Cal was 31, he would have killed himself when he was 48.
As the for the cigarett Jack was smoking, I couldn't tell you what kind it was. I'm not a smoker so I don't know the kinds of cigarettes. Sorry. |

Now that's a tough one to remember without watching the movie to answer it. I haven't watched the movie in a while!
I wasn't really paying attention to the hats, but I do know that the Countess was wearing a blue hat with a large feather at the front. |

So what if he was sure of himself! I know I'm sure of myself but I don't let it get to my head! He still respected other people! He gave his life to save Rose twice (kinda)! The lifeboat scene and when they were in the water. How is that being an asshole?

At the end when he tells her to get on the wood do you not see his face? He knows he is going to die! He would be without Rose anyway. So what you said doesn't make sense.
