i agree! people get confused and think just because it was the largest ship then , it means its still huge now! this isnt true! and up to some ships today its tiny,
the rust has reduced the tonnage hugely so raising the titanic wouldnt be as differcult as it would be raising a newly sunk ship
if they can put a man on the moon, surely they can raise a 95 year old ship from the ocean,
better still they raised the mary rose which is 450 years old!
i think its a case of can't or won't

Its not the size its what Titanic represents the era of when man thought himself beyond the elements and even God. An even larger ship lies at the bitton of the agean sea, Titanics near identicle sister ship, so its not Titanics size which keeps people interested. If it was size then they would be more interested in its sister ship, the larger one.

what would be the point for raiseing the titanic. granted it may be lighter from rusting, so it would be weaker as well. however I would like to see it raised. and use some parts of it to build another. all the bull about being a grave site, is just that "Bull"
we dig up cave men all the time!

I think it was the elegance and grandeur of the ship. To this day we still don't have a ship that was as beautiful as the Titanic was. It was the era. It was also what took place during the sinking, the tragedy it's self. The many stories of bravery, etc.

And to respond to another post, even today Titanic is still a big ship. I no way is Titanic considered "Tiny".

Titanic and her sister ship were the biggest ships of that time. That's what made them forever something to remember in it's own right, but then for the Titanic to sink on it's maiden voyage just made THAT ship stand out forever..... Sure, other ships have as well, but this one is different.. and I agree with Jessica on one point, it was that era we're all in love with and the extreme tragedy of what happened.

Had Titanic made it and went on to become a war ship, and eventually scrapped, the only thing it would be remembered for was the largest ship in the world at one time.

We only want to raise it now becuase of the saddness of what happened to her and everyone on it.

And, honestly, even thoug I'd like to see it up here where family members of the dead and survivors can see it, they should have done that when it was first found. Now, I think way too much decay has happened for it to actually withstand the pressure changes and the current changes during the way up. I think it would just crumble now.
