wait... no offense, but he wasn't real. So like, your honering a character that didn't really give his life. He never died, because he never lived. But if you like the name Dawson just because it's cool, then hey, go for it. But if it's because your obsessed with "Titanic" then cool it. The obsession will pass.

You can change it if you want but there are a lot of Dawsons and people wouldn't know you are honouring Jack. Besides, there are other ways of honouring Titanic victims than changing your name to theirs. For instance, and I may be weird for doing this, but I don't use ice in my drinks if I can help it to honour the victims.
