The latest book I have read listed the ice field as being 75 miles long, just how much of this ice would the Titanic have had to navigate around, if Captain Smith had had an actual understanding of the length of the ice field, cannot be acertained by reports from other ships encountering the ice unless someone actually reported the southernmost tip of the field. To my knowledge, no one ever ventured to give the actual latitude at which the ice field ceased to be a navigational hazard.
