I have a book called " Report on the Loss of the S.S. Titanic. The Official Government Enquiry" ...and it says that there were a total of 2201 passengers and crew onboard...of that 711 people were saved...which means that 1490 people died on the Titanic.

i'm pretty sure i replied but dont know what happened to the reply.
no-one is exactly sure of the amount of survivors/victims because no-one knows the exact number of passengers who were on the ship. also people werebeing listed as having survived or died when it was the other way round and names appearing on the survivor list who weren't on the ship etc. the general accepted answer is about 706 survivors, but no-one is too sure about how many people died |

Best estimate (and the more-or-less officially accepted figure) is 1503 people, but as bess says, there were a LOT of variables - some she didn't mention were at least two people who [i:3f6beccb4f]wanted[/i:3f6beccb4f] to be taken as dead - so no one will actually know for sure.

One was traveling with a woman not his wife, the other was a gentleman in EXTREME debt. I wouldn't be surprised if there were others, too.
