Freedom of the Seas is shorter and narrower than QM2 but has greater gross tonnage and might have greater displacement (QM2 is said to displace about 76,000 tons and Freedom of the Seas is said to be in the region of 75,000 - 80,000 tons).

Perhaps the best thing to do would be to say that one ship is the biggest in terms of length; another in terms of gross tonnage, and so forth.

You're absolutely right with regard to Queen Mary 2's length; as per Wikipedia:

'At the time of her construction in 2003, the QM2 was the longest, widest and tallest passenger ship ever built, and at 151,400 gross tons, was also the largest. She lost that last distinction to Royal Caribbean International's 158,000 gross ton Freedom of the Seas in April 2006, but QM2 remains the largest ocean liner (as opposed to cruise ship) ever built, and her height, length, and waterline breadth are unsurpassed by any other passenger ship.'

The full article is found here: 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Queen_Mary_2' I won't quote any more due to copyright restrictions.

Best wishes,

Mark.

You know Mark I am so confused. The internet says it is the Queen Mary 2. The news says it is the Freedom of the Seas. Finally this show that I was watching says it is the Voyager of the Seas.
I am so confused.

I don't know anything about the Voyager of the Seas, so I can't comment on that ship.

I think it's fair to say that the Queen Mary 2's gross tonnage has been exceeded, so she's no longer the largest passenger ship on that measure; but she is the longest (if you take that as a measure of size). The Wikipedia article has more.

Best wishes,

Mark.

what is it with cunard they always seem to whant to make ships bigger then they ever have before the new ships now a days make titaniuc look like a ant as they a hell lot bigger

I fail to see the problem with that, I think many more would be upset to see ship sizes go backwards (smaller than the olympic class), still not to worry, Cunards new liner Queen victoria barely surpases Titanics size (length btw). Now that Ocean travel is actually 'MORE' popular than it ever was in the days of the Titanic etc, I think this battle of biggest and the best will only gain momentum, in the past the ship was the method of transport the 747 of their day. But now the ship in it's self is the resort, therefor Cunard, royal carribean etc will be kitting out their new vessels, and refitting there older ones with the lastest and greatest features, gaining weight ergo, making Titanic look smaller and smaller. Still it is called progress (im told)

Yeah buddy.. That's true.. Now if you see, almost all the ships are been design in a modern style.. it's size it's getting bigger and bigger.. I've been in two royal caribbean's ships, yea they're nice and big and everything you want them to be..

Obviously they wouldn't like to create a smaller ship.. is is after all as my pal Martyn said.. a battle of the biggest ship! however, in a few months or years new and biggest ships are coming..

cya all
