Apparantly there are several proposals to build the new Titanic on the drawing board. Some have failed some are still afloat(pund intended.)

I remember reading about one of them it several years ago in Popular Mechanics.

The 1st I've come acroos was called the "Gigantic Project" and the ship's maiden voyage was slated for 2012.

There's also an operation by the name of RMS Titanic Shipping Holdings that proposed Titanic II originally to come out in late 1999, then pushed back to August 2000, then April 2001, now they saw 2004 or 2005.

Then there is the plan from White Star Limited that's wants to build a 500-million replica that they wanted afloat on the 90th anniversary in 2002.
White Star Lines Foundation plans to build "olympic class steamer" from what remains of the Harland & Wolff shipyard(they no longer build ocean liners but last I heard they build oil tankers. There ship is dated for 2012.

Thomas Andrews Transatlantic Line has designed a full size replica of the ship and plans the magic date of 2012 as well.

All plans sound nice, time will tell who will follow through and actually build the ship that will resemble the Titanic, except for the more obvious number of lifeboats, navigation equipment, and loss of the old "rivet" look on her hull. For more info go to the website below.

I thought i heard a rumour that it was going to be built at Long Beach, California with the Queen Mary which is now a luxury hotel there. No,Marc, Just wanted to know if anyone else had it-that's all. Hey, do you all know that the Nomadic (ferry used to bring passengers to and from Cherbourg) is still about. Someone bought it when it finally retired in 1970 and put in paris somewhere and only recently they found out what it was and have no made it known-cool!! Cheers.

This ties in with several threads on this forum. Titanic II is an idea that has been floating around for ten years that I know of. There are a huge number of reasons it will never be built, but in a nutshell most financiers are convinced that the money they would put in would not give an adequate return on their investment. I was involved with a bank a few years ago and got involved with this proposal (I'd [i:3e6a34ec5b]dearly[/i:3e6a34ec5b] love to see the ship built) and that's the reason in a nutshell.

What we need is an eccentric billionaire who loves [i:3e6a34ec5b]Titanic[/i:3e6a34ec5b]. Maybe he'd build one. Anybody know any?

i heard about it to but i thought it was last year,
it was to have set sail on the same day the titanic did and whe it got to where it went down they where going to stop and prey.
but after that i never heard about it again i wanted to go on it,

Regrading that information, it is still at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, which it once sailed until it hit the iceberg. :(

I heard there was going to be a new Titanic and I remember seeing a drawing of it. It did not look like the Titanic at all. It looked more streamlined. And more futuristic.
