This bit was in our local paper...I found it a little rude and I thought the person writing it has no knowledge of Titanic, which I believe if you quote you should a tleast research a little....
Nesconset, L.I.: Eli Manning saying he thought he had a good game until that last interception is like the captain of the Titanic saying it was a great voyage until they hit that pesky iceberg. My understanding is that the voyage of Titanic was going quite well until the night of April 14th..how do you feel about this? |

Yes, that is a little rude, but only to people like us.
But then again, you have to laugh at life sometimes. Really, its the only way to get through it. As far as his understanding of the ship' history, well, what is to be expected? All most people know about the ship is from the new movie. That, and there is still "Titanic the legend" and "Titanic, the reality". Remember, Walter Lord stated that people used to believe that the ship was so big that it carried dairy cows on board for fresh milk? I think that the real story of Titanic is quickly fading from the public as a whole, and its up to us maritime fans to keep her real memory alive, not just the legend or "pop-culture aspect". |

that is rude and is an insult to all those who died on the titanic and is also an insult to everyone who had to do with the building or construction of the titanic or just plain have anything to do with the titanic

It is just a joke, granted in poor taste but I doubt any disrespect was made what so ever. He used a well known analogy to help comunicate what he thought to everyone, thing's like that are done all the time, and to think it was said to cause distress or disrespect is just silly. I can guarente there was no harm meant, though I do see why you may think that, here's hoping he did actually apoligise, though as I read that, and indeed many people who did that dont have any particular intrest in Titanic, would give a polite laugh and read the next story.
