It can sometimes be overlooked, but Titanic had a small bell located on the forward outside bridge screen, directly above the middle window.
Does anyone know the function of this bell? Is it rang for the change of the watch? And furthermore, is it rang from a pully or something from the inside of the bridge? |

Found the folling bit's of information, to tell the truth I never spoted it before, I know there is one in the crows nest (obviously) but I thought that was all.
http://www.titanic1.org/museum/11-olympic-bell.asp http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/nwh_gfx_en/ART33208.html Yeeesh can never find a straight forward answer on google, try wikipedia perhaps, my only guess was to alert other crew man rather than shouting half way across Titanic, 'HAW SMITH GET OVER HERE BOY' or something along those lines Like two ring's for murdoch, three for captain etc. Martyn |
