Hi,
[quote:0c5dcf6dfe] I heard that the Titanic was sunk by a torpedo. The reason was that the German (I think) did not want Britian to set the water speed record. [/quote:0c5dcf6dfe] Presumably this 'water speed record' is the Blue Ribband. Since Britain already held this record with Mauretania, and would from 1907-29, it's a ridiculous asertion IMHO. In my view, the only record Titanic might have been going for was one better than that of Olympic's own maiden voyage. Since the last of the ship's twenty-four main boilers were not connected to the engines until 7 p.m. on Sunday April 14th 1912, Titanic was not even capable of matching Olympic's *best time record* for the westbound crossing on the southern track. Considering the mass of iceberg sightings, I'll stick to that theory. Best regards, Mark. |
