My favourite officer is Harold Lowe. :D
This is what the BBC think of him: "Only one man went back that night, the Welshman Harold Godfrey Lowe, the true hero of the Titanic". :D |

I think you're right - twenty-two people wound up on [i:198509b578]D[/i:198509b578], which is a respectable number to have saved.

Mine is Capt. Smith. Withing a short period of time after the collision, Capt. Smith got information from Thomas Andrews. Thomas Andrews calculated and told Capt. Smith that Titanic would sink in two hours, yet he kept his cool certainly knowing his fate to come, did his duties under the circumastances to save lives as much as possible. A few minutes before Titanic foundered, Capt Smith went to the Radio room and told the two Radio Operators that they have done their duties and to look after them-selves (every man to him-self). That was about five minutes before Titanic went down. Capt Smith is certainly my favourite. Also, we cannot forget the engineers who did their bit (none of them saved)

Very true - the engineers rarely get the credit for their sacrifice, and far more people would have been killed if they had not kept that electricity going for the Marconi operators.
