No problem. I didn't know about the turning engines that's really cool.
I believe Lady Duffs necklace was worth 50000 $ and uninsured. |

Mac G wrote: Ahh did you read that in "Ghosts of Titanic?" I'm just starting to read that now. I have heard Pellegrino fictionalizes a lot. But what I've read so far is pretty good. You know, I have always wondered about that. It seems that he has information on events that I cannot find in any other accounts, maybe it is somewhat fictionalzied? Where did you hear about him fictionalizing accounts? Other Titanic historians? It was either Ghosts of the Titanic or Her Name Titanic where I heard this information. By the way, if you have not read it yet, wait till you get to the part about the "anoxic beds" around Titanic's stern. It will give you the chills! Made up or not. Thanks for the link by the way on the other post! By the way, I'm enjoying all of this "in depth" trivia Mac G, Rowan, Captain Dan! Its nice to see some people on this site who want to talk about something other than Jack and Rose!!!! |

Rowen--Correct. Ask a question if you'd like.
MGY Friend-- Actually the man who owns that Titanic/Californian link I posted above told me that's what he heard. And if you ever email him, he's like a Titanic Encyclopedia. He knows his work. I think the best work we'll find is from Walter Lord tbh. His research is done to a T, and interesting. Anyways, Ghosts of Titanic is still very good. Pellegrino does much research as well. I think it's good to read various books to get a more sound grip on things. I did notice one error. He wrote that the last rocket fired from Titanic was at 1:20am when we know for a fact that it was 1:45am. Odd how he missed that. I'll look up the part of anoxic beds. P.S.- The only part about the new movie(Titanic 97') I liked was the actual history and seeing what it very may well have looked like. The Jack and Rose story proves the point that there were many loved ones lost. Which I can understand James Cameron's point. I still think A Night to Remember is the ultimate Titanic movie. PLUS, it gives me my Californian fix and a lot of it. haha. Glad too, that people find Titanic interesting. I've been a die hard fan since I saw the movie in 1997. But not of the love story. I bought books, CDs, etc. It died away toward the end of High School but now it's back! |

I think this scene rules from the movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI3mRUyPXPE&NR=1 MGY- Can the Turning engines be seen at any point in this clip, if so when? And btw, this is one of the best scenes in the movie...obviously. |

Uhhh, its very hard to see it if you can. The computer I'm using here at work has a hard time with video, so the picture is kind of grainy. I think you can see them in the first shot of the engine room in the movie when Bell gives the order for "all ahead full", then turns around. Take a look at this picture. The turning engine is on the lower left side of the base. The little horizontal wheel you see by the big vertical wheel) You can also see the little pistons right above the horizontal wheel. Anyway, when they want to use it, they can tilt that little corkscrew looking thing under neath the horizontal wheel so it can connect onto the big wheels gears and turn it. |

Hey, that is the first picture I ever posted, cool I know how to do it now. Anyway, look at this photo of the turning engine from a working model of Titanic's engine a guy built in Germany. You can see how it works better than me trying to explain it. By the way, Captain Dan and all, here is the website that has that guys model: Check it out. Its amazing if you like Titanic's engines: Titanic-model.com |

Ohh okay. By your description before I remember seeing a wheel spinning. Wasn't sure if that was it. Neat, didn't know that either!
