There was a programme with Kate Winslet on today [on Living] and she talked about Titanic and apparently Rose was actually American.

As an American, I always think it's fun to see non-American actors try to speak with an American accent because it's interesting to see how successful they are at it. I was impressed with Kate's American accent and thought it was very good, as she didn't let it slip too often. Actually, I can only think of a few times where she says something with an English accent.

Great Job Kate! :D

Um...thats not really anything new.... If one paid attention to the film and listened to it, there are several quotes that Rose says that confirms her being American.

When boarding:
"To me, it was a slave ship, taking me back to[b:dc84840c69]America [/b:dc84840c69] in chains. Outwardly, I was everything a well brought up girl should be. Inside, I was screaming"

Then during when they're outside on deck after the Suicide scene:
"500 invitations have gone out, all of [b:dc84840c69] Philadelphia's society [/b:dc84840c69] will be there. And all the while I feel I'm standing in the middle of a crowded room, screaming at the top of my lungs and no one even looks up!"

I do that too...one of the best actors I found to do an incrediable american accent is Colin Farrell. He's very Irish...when he talks in real life, it's sometimes HARD to understand what he says, but when he makes movies with an American accent, you'd SWEAR he's american...lol...
