My friends and I were fighting over whether she died or not too...I think she died...since Jack had told her, that she would die an old woman, warm in her bed, and there she was, an old woman warm in her bed.

Thank You Drusilla

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here but the goal of a good movie script is to leave you in some overwhelming emotion. I guess confused and fascinated counts.

did 'old rose' die at the end? I hope so. whadda a way t'go.

I think Rose died in the end.

For some 80 years, she had kept her life as a DeWitt Bukater a secret, along with the entire identity of the man who saved her. She was probably the only person still living who could remember Jack Dawson, the man who forever changed her, yet left no physical evidence of his own existence behind when he died. These were rather large secrets to keep inside her heart for so long, although, by keeping them there, it seems like she felt she was allowing Jack to continue to live through her.

After Rose tells the entire story of their relationship, she has opened her heart to everyone on board the Kelydash. When she drops the Heart of the Ocean overborad, she is letting her heart go, symbolically saying she is ready to go because she has released her heart back to the ocean that claimed Jack.

I don't know, maybe I just read too much into things sometimes.

OOH Mountie!
That is the best way I have ever heard it explained! Lovely lovely!
*applause*
You got the whole metaphor thing like I did - of the Heart of the Ocean, and her letting it go. Awesome!

Wow Mountie
What a wonderful post, I agree with Starry.

Rose had done just what Jack had asked her to do and enjoy the rest of her life.

You explained it beautifully!!!!!

I think she died too.. in my opinion throwing the heart of the ocean into the ocean is a symbol that her life is now complete..
Then you can actually see the pictures of what she did in the past (like the one of her riding the horse etc..).. those pictures are like a quick review of what she did after the titanic disaster.. and fullfilling jack's promise..
also as mentioned she's lying there warm in her bed..
Afterwards I think she's like a ghost going back to the 'ghost titanic' because you can also see her moving swiftly before reaching the Grand Staircase.. and you see all the people who actually died at the ship in the movie attending her wedding.. reuniting with Jack again
Anyways my point is that I think its kinda obvious that she died at the end.. maybe to have a happy ending after the huge number of all the sad events

Starry,
that was an awesome post. I seriously wanted to cry.
I also belive that Rose dies at the end.
Who cares if she's not the real Rose from the Titanic?
It's an awesome movie and I'm happy that she ended up with Jack at the end.
Beautiful ending!
