Okay I have no idea what fourm I should post this in, so If this is in the wrong forum please move it or tell me where to move it. So I am in a public Speaking class and I need to write a seven minute long persuasive speach. I decided to go with Titanic since I am fascinated with her, and I didnt really want to research a topic that I didn't know anything about. So I am trying to persuade my teacher and class that the sinking of Titanic made ships safer. For one they added enough lifeboats for all of their passengers, and the International Ice patrol was formed. I also know that they required that the radios on the ships were to be on at all times and to be monitored. I need help, because I know that there are alot more things that happened because of the Titanic sinking to help make ships safer, but I am unsure to what they all are. The ones I listed above are the major ones that I know of. If you have any links to video clips or news articles that could help me would you be so kind and post them for me?

Well, you might want to add that along with enough lifeboats for everyone, Titanic also inspired the need for manditory lifeboat drills so that everyone will know where to go in case of an emergency.

I do not think it was totally tied with the Titanic, but more inspired because of, ships today have Personal Address systems (intercoms) to let people know that something is wrong (unlike Titanic, which had to rely on her stewards and such knocking and banging on people's doors, which too a lot of time!)

In Titanics younger sistership Britannic, they installed a tube that could take messages from the marconi room to the bridge and back. That way, the bridge could get the ice messages promptly and not have the operators delay or not take deliver them at all. To make it short- Titanic inspired more importance to getting wireless navigation messages to the commanding officers.

The shipyard that built Titanic (Harland and Wolff), recalled Titanic's sister ship Olympic from service, and stopped construction on Britannic, to reconstruct their watertight compartment systems. I'm sure shipbuilders all around the world looked at what went wrong with Titanic and made notes to inprove their ships.

Titanic had weaker steel than todays ships. But the steel we have today is more due to technology rather than a result of the disaster. But...maybe you can work it in if you need to fill some time!

I believe it did. More than likely they listen to the warnings if there are any and all ocean liners are required to have enough lifeboats for everyone on board.

I'd have to say Yes to it. Lifeboats for all and evacuation drills are standard on all liners (ocean and cruise). <br /><br />Sadly though, it took 1,523 lives lost to get ships safer. Why does it take a disaster to get us to improve our travel regulations? The lifeboat laws (that Titanic was using) were from the 1800's and for liners that were about 1/3rd the size.<br /><br />I guess society is only "reactive" and not "pro-active" (I think that's the word for it).

In all, about 12 or 13 hours of movie run time.

It's hard to believe it's been 98 years since the Titanic wreck!
