I think that captain smyth survived the sinking and started a new life under the name captain birds eye.

What makes you think that?

I read this thing online a long time ago (i printed it out and still have it somewhere actually) that said that in 1914 a friend of Smith's who was also a ship captain ran into him in the city and they had a brief conversation. The friend was well-respected and perfectly sane, but I'm inclined not to believe him. It's the only thing I've ever heard about it and it sounds way too bizarre.

Well, how is it that he died on the Titanic? Did anyone testify to seeing him die? Or, did people just say he died on the Titanic because after the sinking no one saw him again?

I was only joking captain birds eye is from a tv ad. But i can tell you that the last sightings of captain Smyth he was seen entering one of the life boats but others say that he got back off and was seen on the bridge then there is yet another tale off how he was seen swimming up to a life boat holding a child which he handed over and turned back in the direction of the sinking ship. Ive just had a look but that book must be out when it comes back ill type word for word about the above. This book also shows you a picture of the iceburg that sunk titanic.

Yea, I heard the story about him in the water and swimming to a boat to hand over the baby. I wonder which story is actually true? lol

I think that it crossed his mind to jump into a life rath but later changed his mind and went down with his ship.

another story about thomas andrew who start a new life hide in canada... i,m sure all this story are false, some people want a little popularity thats all!!!

i like how people make capt. smith look like a gentleman and how he died on the ship and how he brought the baby to a boat. thats a very manly thing to do.
