Has anyone seen the pictures of the Sea Diamond sink this morning? It was a Greek cruise ship that hit a volcanic reef in the Mediterranean off the island of Santorini.
From what was said, the ship hit the reef and started to list to starbord, but was able to stay afloat for a while due to her compartments being closed. Most onboard were evacuated (a father and his daughter are still missing). It took over three hours to evacuated everyone! WoW! Titanic sank in two hours, 40 minutes! Anyway, the ship finally sank in the nighttime. Looks like she listed so much that she started to take in water from the superstructure and portholes. Luckily, almost everyone on onboard is safe. But it goes to show you that you can only make ships so safe, and that a ship disaster the size Titanic could happen again, especially with the time it takes to evacuate a large ship. Even with enough lifeboats. |

Yes, I saw it too. I think it was very tragic that it sank, but it was good that everyone survived.
My father told me about the Greek ship. He gave me a cutting from the newspaper which shows the ship sinking. |

Interesting bit about the lifeboats. Which brings up the question, even IF Titanic had enough boats for everyone, would they all have gotten launched in time? Personally, I don't think so. Maybe a couple hundred more (tops) might've been saved from the wreckage. However, they couldn't launch all 20 boats that they DID have in time (Collapsibles A & B floating off the Boat Deck).
