Now, Titanic is sinking. You run confused around in the ship trying to get up to the boat deck even though you have a feeling that there might not isn't any lifeboats left. Though, you still feel that there is a chance. You run into the smoking room and there he is, standing at the fireplace starring at the framed picture of Plymouth Harbour. It's Thomas Andrews. He hear your steps and turn around slowly. You stop.

Now you want to save him, but how?

You may talk to him, you may drag him to the boatdeck, anything... But without hurting him. The point is that he has to be saved.

Use your imagination and then post. Thank you.

Not sure if you could convince a man to save his life when others have told him already they will give up theirs without hesitation. That's why I commend Andrews for remaining also without hesitation. If I did walk by, like we've seen in ANTR and Titanic. I'd probably tell him to give himself a chance, that he has a family to think about. I'd also try and convince him, without trying that he's just adding to those who will not make it. I know it's not perfect, but that's what I would say.

I don't think i would even try to persuade him. He made his choice, and you can also rescue someone else. Andrew's life isn't more valuable than the life of any 3rd class passenger.
I think they would have thought it was his responsibility that Titanic sank. I'm not sure...

I guess the only way to actually get him to do anything would be to smack him in the face, shake him and say "snap out of it!!!" (since he was in a state of shock or something). Its really too bad that he did not survive because he was the person that could have really given the most information on what actually happened to the ship.

Thank you for posting

It's quite a dilemma.. You could save him or someone else, or just save yourself..
I think I would take his arm and drag him out to the boatdeck even though I might not would be popular..

Agreed MGY. We might know a lot more about the collision and the damage if Andrews had lived. But like we have said, he made a choice to stay. We have to respect him for that.

You know, I just thought of something. If Andrews did survive (such as entering into a lifeboat), would he have suffered the same persecution that Ismay did in regard to surviving?

I mean, people shunned Ismay because he survived and over a thousand people died on his ship.

Well, Titanic was (in a way) Andrews ship as well. So.......?

I suppose that I'd have brained him and dragged him to a life boat. That way, his reputation is saved, as he'd be entering against his will, plus his testimony would be preserved.

Good point. I don't think it would have been as extreme. Ismay, OWNED the Titanic's company of the White Star line. So really he owned the ship along with Lord Pierre and JP Morgan. Andrews was a builder in the Harland and Wolff Shipyards. It's hard to say, but I don't see him as being accused like Ismay. Ismay's problem came in really that he "persuaded" Captain Smith to run her full steam when it was dangerous. Then bailed in the end.

Mac G, I don't know if you have read this, but the Titanic Historical Society wrote a good artle on Journalist William Randolf Herst and how he was the first to villify Ismay. Here is the link if you or any one else is interested.
