after reading what others have written...I think that's the beauty of films...parts of films can mean different things to different people. What is important is what that phrase means to you. Its like looking at a fine piece of art...there are many ways to look at it.

i think he knew that he was going to die if a boat wouldn't come back soon. but he was very weak and wanted rose to give him this promise. i think you're right, hi didn't say i love you too because in this case it's like a goodbye. jack was confident with his life, rose absolutely not and she wanted to start a new life with him. but he knew that only one of them could survive(if the boat would've come a bit later rose woul've died too) and he wanted rose to do that so that she could see how great live can be (unfortunately without him). and so he died for her. that's much more than these three words.
Remember when the boat came and rose recognized that jack was dead - she wanted to stay and die. but than she remembered the promise i think

i have a new question.
y wouldn't jack say i love u too when rose told him that she loved him at the end of the movie when they were waiting for the boats to come back??
i thought of this last night when i was watching it on TNT. lol...

i think it might have been because he wanted rose to believe that they were goin to survive. but idk. cuz he shoulda known that he was gonna die. i mean unless he didn't kno about hypothermia.

I agree. I don't think a person would die for someone he merely lusted after. Also, if I remember correctly, it was Rose that initiated what happened in the car.

true. cuz he like stared at her like a lot at the beginning of the movie. so yeah he def. loved her a lot.
