When did you first become interested in the Titanic?
I first became interested when I first saw "Secrets of the Titanic", the National Geographic special when it premiered (I think in 1987). I only saw the last five minutes of it but I became facinated watching the underwater footage of the rusting bow and was forever hooked right there. My Dad bought me my first book "The Discovery of the Titanic" when I was about nine, and I soon saw the movies, "SOS Titanic" and "Titanic" from 1953. As I got older my interest grew and grew, and I obtained more and more reading material and saw every other film made. What is everyone else's experience? I would like to know! |

You know what? That's a really good question. I'm 17. And I can't quite recall when I became interested. Titanic came to my attention because of the 1998 film "Titanic", but that was it. To me it was just a movie about a sinking ship and some cheesy love story. But at the time I was 8 or 9.
Titanic really hit me, when I was flipping the pages of a book called "882 1/2 Amazing Answers to you questions about the Titanic" and on page 40 "The Last Evening" I saw the photograph of "Jack Phillips" then I read up on what he did on the ship. At that moment I was hooked. Then I started reading te book from page 1 until the end. There my odyssey with the Titanic started. I must have been around 10 or 12. So I've been interested for about 6 years now. I always credit Jack Phillips with pulling me into the world of the Titanic. |

i got interested with the Titanic when I saw the movie at a friends house. Her Mom came down stairs & told us 2 watch the movie, because she said it was interesting. we started at the part where jack draws rose. I FELL IN LOVE IMEDITLY! Soon after, i had the movie, the sound track, & a poster of "The Flying Scene" .

For me, my interest is for the real ship. That is why my favorite movie is still "A Night To Remember". I believe this movie caught the overall feeling of the disaster more because you get to meet all of the characters, including the Californian and Carpathia officers.
Don't get me wrong, I love the new movie but only for it's historical accuracy in re-creating the ship and it's sinking. I just dont care about Jack and Rose. I did not cry when Jack died, because I knew he was not real. |

Dancing on titanic, you must see A Night to Remember!!!
Granted, it has its own share of artistic liscense, and the special affects are not up to Cameron's movie, but it is amazing how powerful this movie is. The iceberg scene is so powerful because there is no dramatic music like in Cameron's film, just the eerie whitenoise sound of the ship moving through the water, and then the collision. It is really something to hear the British version of Nearer My God to Thee, and I think it sounds more hauntingly beautiful than the American version that Cameron put in his film. Please, see it! See it this weekend if you can and let me know what you think of it! |
