Hi! I`m looking for any information about Mr. Luigi Crovella, assistant waiter on board RMS Titanic, aged 17, maybe 18. He died in the sinking and his body was not recoverd or if recoverd it was not identified. The only informations I got about him so far are that he gave his last adress at 5 Orchard Place Southampton; he was an Italian immigrant from S. Sebastiano da Po (Turin). I`ve been able to trace down some other individuals named Crovella, also from the same village of S. Sebastiano da Po, that entered the United States in 1913 and were registred in the records from Ellis Island. They were probably relatives but I haven`t been able to figure out the exact connection with Luigi Crovella. If someone knows more about this young man I would appreciate any information. Thank you.

Ciao! Grazie.
surching for Luigi Crovella

Just for answering you ... <img src="<a href="http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif"" target="_blank">http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif" alt="" /> I think it is unjust that a young man of 17 should practically be unknown to everybody. If you look at the biografies of the victims, even those traveling in 3-rd class are given a larger description, as from where they were comming, who were they married to, or who recieved the compensation payment from the White Star Line, and how much money they were talking about. But when it comes to the crew, the situation changes. There are many people only known because of a name and an adress and then there isn`t anything more anybody can tell about them. And it is a shame, because the great majority of these men died that night just because the passenggers had to come first to the boats. The firemen and the sailmen and the A` la Carte staff went down with the ship because they had to work until the last moment. So, I guess, I just wanted to do something for one of them, who impressed me the most because first of all he was Italian and second because of his age. And I think it is impossible that he came from nowhere, and had no parents, or nobody to know other about him.

I tried using Google on his name, but it looks like you've got almost all of the available info. Only new things I found was -

1. He was stationed in the A La Carte Restaurant (you already know he was an assistant waiter).

2. His body was NOT found after the sinking.

Wish I had a picture to help put a face with a name. Sorry that I didn't have more.

Thank you for the time and patience in trying to help me, Rip. <img src="<a href="http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif"" target="_blank">http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif" alt="" />
I also had several attempts both with Google and with Yahoo search, but they only sent me to sites I had already visited. I tried to find some available immigration records for the UK, but it seems they don`t share this kind of information on line <img src="<a href="http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d75edb5e.gif"" target="_blank">http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d75edb5e.gif" alt="" /> . That works also for the Italian government. There is no registration of people getting out of the country, other then in numbers and statistics. I was wondering if perheaps there is a site with names and records of the brithish census from around year 1900? I haven`t been able to find anything so far. Anyway, I am working on some other ideas that came to me lately. I believe that Luigi Crovella, being only 17 at the time, couldn`t possibly have got the job by himself, that is without recomandation. It is unlikely that he had previously worked as an waiter for a respectable establishment because he would have been too young. So maybe some other italian waiter took him in and introduced him to Gatti and maybe even guaranteed for him. I am trying to do this little investigation right now <img src="<a href="http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif"" target="_blank">http://www.titanic.com/uploads/smil3dbd4d6422f04.gif" alt="" /> Yes, it would have been really nice to find a photo to associate with L. Crovella`s name.

Yes, you are right, there are a lot of unknown biografies, but the strange thing is that not only those that spoke not english are among the "unknown". There are a lot of people both from England as well as from Ireland, a lot of them part of the crew, that are described only by the name, age and last given adress. That is pretty wired, I believe, because if I can find difficulties to find out informations about Luigi Crovella, who was an italian immigrant from a poor family that probably didn`t had the right connections or even informations for claiming any damage to the White Star Line, that shouldn`t have been the case of the English families of those crew members that died. And one has only to look at the lists with those from engineering, victualling and even deck to see how many brief biografies there are.
