It has been confirmed that the Titanic Signature Project application has been listed for funding under the Big Lottery’s Living Landmarks programme.
http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/default.aspx This programme is intended to support communities working together to transform, revitalise and regenerate the places where they live through the funding of major capital projects. The next step will be a project review visit to Belfast in May to undertake a thorough assessment of all elements of the application before a decision is taken on whether or not to invite a stage two application. If ultimately successful, the Titanic Signature Project could be eligible for support funds of between £10 million and £25 million. The Titanic Signature Project is not only the development of a world class flagship visitor attraction for Belfast, but will also look at the development of the wider site and heritage assets – the Thompson Dock & Pump House, the Titanic Slipways, the SS Nomadic, HMS Caroline, Harland and Wolff Head Quarters and Drawing Offices to name a few. If successful, a phased approach will be adopted to deliver the Titanic Signature Project with the intention that the project will be completed by 2011. 2012 will mark the centenary of the Titanic story and this will offer Belfast a unique opportunity to showcase its Titanic heritage.
