Thompson Dry Dock Pumphouse

Thompson Dry Dock PumphousePopular
Description: This is the pumphouse which served the Thompson Dry Dock, to the right of it, and also the Alexandra Dry Dock behind it. As you can see it is in a bad state of repair, also being fenced off, like the dock beside it.
Note the large poster on the wall depicting Titanic, on the right, and Olympic, on the left, entering the Thompson dock.
For such an important part of Titanic's history, this whole area needs restored to its former glory. There is a petition for this to be done (see my posting elsewhere on Titanic.com) or click the following link.

Thompson Dry Dock

Thompson Dry DockPopular
Description: This is the dock which was specially built for the Olympic class liners, Olympic being the first ship to use the dock, and any pic you see of Titanic ( or Olympic) in a dock, it will be in this one. Note the security fence put up around it, as the safety of the dock gate is not known, with the danger it may give way and flood the dock.
N I Science Park own this whole area and are supposed to be restoring it to its former glory. Just don't ask them when!

Another View Of Titanic's Slipway

Another View Of Titanic's SlipwayPopular
Description: The River Lagan is in the distance, Titanic's stern was a few feet from the water's edge. Her bow was about 20 feet past where I am taking this picture. Can you imagine how big she was? Check out the dump truck on the far right for an idea of size.

The small railway tracks on the right were part of the horse drawn railway system which brought parts to the Titanic and many other ships built on this slipway.
