I myself am a septic; however, I do not take the popular response of saying, that the Idea is rubbish. As many people know, Olympic and Titanic where similar, NOT identical. The biggest difference was the promenade deck. But Titanic did not get its deck enclosed until very late on, not even by early march. So how someone can't see the simple prospect, of them inclosing Olympic instead of Titanic is beyond me. Up until March 2nd Titanic still looked like Olympic, including the open promenade, Titanic’s promenade was open like Olympics right up until March. So closing Olympics instead is a very easy thing to do. However there are a few things that stop the theory in its tracks. Such as internal differences etc.

a switch is all nonsense, the ship that lies down at the bottom of the sea is titanic and even ballard says it is so their is no more need to go on with this conspiracy

ah it porves a point right enough, a switch could have been made.
But i don't see when olympic was going to be scrapped, they chose a similar design to titanics that would make them almost identical. I'd expect major differences. |

It was actually Titanic that was like Olympic, not the other way round. The initial plan was for them to be identicle, but after learning from Olympic, they made the changes, to Titanic, that made it the ship we think of now.

mmm yes i see your point, they wanted to make up for the loss of the olympic so they built a ship identical to it.
who wouldn't blame them, olympic was a well liked ship. |

It's an absolutely preposterous theory. One that shouldn't be taken seriously.
How was this switch supposed to've been conducted? Are we to believe that the dissimilarities between the ships had been thoroughly altered in a swift, overnight operation? How was secrecy maintained? And of course, Olympic's proper hull number was found throughout the ship during its scrapping. Why would White Star be so desperate to dispose of Olympic? Sure, Olympic had been involved in some incidents, but was never damaged so critically that it couldn't be repaired. Why would White Star even come up with such a harebrained scheme if they knew even beforehand that there'd be no way they could ever profit from it? White Star only lost money as a result of Titanic's loss. It'd only been partially insured; White Star had underwritten the remainder. And the other part had been insured by IMM, the company that owned White Star! They basically insured it themselves, and therefore had no way to benefit financially from the loss of the ship. And think of the unavoidable bad publicity of the sinking. |
