Murdoch was portrayed as such in the 1997 Cameron film; however, there is considerable debate among historians as to the evidence upon which this portrayal is based. Many feel that the evidence is too thin and inconclusive to determine whether or not any officer shot themselves at all, let alone who that officer might have been. Cameron apologised for his portrayal of Murdoch last year. Best wishes, Mark. |

Hi Wendy,
I just finished reading the biography of William Murdoch on the Dalbeattie website, he strikes me as a highly competent, long serving officer. According to the article, he was raised around the sea, and seafaring. There is a lot of scepticism about the story about his suicide- I tend to disbelieve it, I have a hard time believing a senior officer, at a time of need would do something like that. Walter Lord viewed the story with considerable suspicion too- I was watching an interview, and he expressed doubt. It also said in the biography your family was always connected to the sea-I found that fascinating I am sure you have seen it, but here is the link to the biography I was reading. http://www.dalbeattie.com/titanic/wmmlife.htmthe sea I hope you will be active with the group, it is always nice to hear from someone who has a personal story to tell- just reading history tends to give people a single dimension, but reading about someone's background, like William Murdoch adds some flesh and blood to the stories. |

Hi Wendy!
I'm very thrilled to meet you. I'm Will's reincarnated wife, Ada Florence Murdoch. He affectionately refers to me as being his Aid. Anyway, why don't you go take a looksy elsewhere on this board under TITANIC BIOGRAPHICAL RESEARCH>THE MURDOCH Family Tree info.... There, you will find some very interesting information about my mother-in-law, Jane "Jeanie" MURDOCH nee MUIRHEAD; her parents (my grand-in-laws); and my three older sisters & brother-in-law. Like I mentioned in my thread, I found that info on Rootsweb.com under MURDOCH. MA |
