Hi Edward9139!

It was certainly a long post in relation to others on this thread, but I think that reflected the information I contributed. After all, the information that Olympic was under compulsory pilotage at the time of the collision (and not Smith's *direct* command) is very important if we are discussing Smith's abilities. As is the possibility of the mistakes made by the Hawke.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Hi Edward9139!

I certainly will. However, it's not instant messaging as such -- I may not read some replies until tomorrow, as I am going out this evening.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Hi Edward9139!

What didn't you understand?

Try reading my shorter post, on this page, as that says something similar -- albeit in condensed form. Here it is:

'...the information that Olympic was under compulsory pilotage at the time of the collision (and not Smith's *direct* command) is very important if we are discussing Smith's abilities. As is the possibility of the mistakes made by the Hawke.'

Best wishes,

Mark.

Hi Edward9139,

I'm not sure what length of membership has to do with it. What I'm saying is that Captain Smith was on the Olympic's bridge, but the orders were not being given by him before the collision -- so any faulty orders were Olympic's Pilot's. So it would be unfair to blame Smith for the collision. That's my first point, as short as I can make it.

Best wishes,

Mark.

ah true, but is't it the captains responsibility to take the blame,

But you are right about him not being given the order's before the collision. Was it the same error that almost caused the accident as Titanic pulled out of southampeton?
