Hello,

>>Under Capt. Huge David there was a minor 1st class state-fire.<<

I think the name was actually 'Hugh' David, although I don't remember for sure. Either way, the fire in C68 isn't in the same league as a collision IMHO.

Best wishes,

Mark.

Were there any steel fracture related sinkings at the time of Titanic's sinking?

Whas the coal-fire still going onboard by the time Titanic struck the berg? There was a fire in one of the coal shoots wasn't there?

Define fire? It was not a raging blaze, more just embers, it was a common thing to happen, but some people think that the heat weakened the steel. Supposedly, the fire was still going at the time she struck the berg, and indeed, the (supposed) fire was going for well over a week, but we must stress, it was not a raging blaze. Some people also think the heat reacted with the water spilling in and caused an explosion, you can see evidence to support this on the wreck, because the steel is pushed outward, as if something pushed out. The damage is located above boiler room 6, where the fire was. But another explanation is that when the ship, struck the floor, and bent backwards, small fractures like that where created.

It's up to you what you want to believe.

Cya,
