I doubt any one has the technology to accuratly predict the time for iron to start and decay.
There is many layers in Iron one of the many reasons for using iron in so many buildings process.

By 1912 the iron making industry had basically "cracked" if you like the fundimentals of iron extraction and iron making.

You may think that they have been using iron since the late stone age but. Since then iron production come on leeps and bounds and the production prcoess has hardlies changed since the 1900.

I predict a maximum of 30 years before the "Inner" core of the iron is penertrated by the various bacteria that live and thrive on the bacteria inside the iron. The storboard bow has started to corrode and the outer shell has started to crumble.

I would like to explain though that as iron crumbles and corodes the compacting materials will strengthen the structure for maybe 2-3 years at the maximum. Many artefacts will survie long after our life time. And by then most objects will have been covered by the dense silt which also helps preserve relics of certain composistion.

I could go into various compounds which would survie in these cold and acidic conditions. But i think many of you are thinking i am a big enough nerd already.

Thanks S-Park.

If you have any questions or i have not explained my delf enough please tell me.

There are many parts of Titanic that will be down there for centuries, and even eons. They may become covered, but they will still be there.

I would say 20 years posibly 30. BUt i think now Titanic should be left. We dont have many years left with her. ANd i think the remainder of our time should be spent thinking of what a beautiful ship she is. And not was!!!!!!!!!!!

Titanic was a marvel in ship building history.
Long after she has gone she will still be here

well, i think titanic is going to dissapear one day.. but, man is the one responsable of her remaining time...

i mean, the expeditions make titanic be weaker more and more..

i think we must let her rest...

in my opinion, titanic is just as person that dies and people must show respects to it...

yes i do think 8 years is incorrect...

15-30 years is more correctly lol

but still think that is incorrect also...

I have watched all the documenteries before Cameron & Crew went down and if you watch the original 3 tape discovery from the late 80's they were carrying out many tests on the iron ore, micro organisms etc and they quoted a collapse would probably take place in 8 years time. If you visit the Nautical Research Inc website and read, you will see that the collapse has already begun. The starboard side and the mast.

I think it will last a lot longer than 8 years, the longer the better I think, if I could put a number on it, I think around 50 years, I hope I am wrong

After watching a documentary recently, it was quoted that it will be gone in the next 100 years and will be just an iron ore deposit on the sea-bed.
