Well, for me, in a fanfiction sense, I would want a love story going on between Titanic's adorable First Officer, William McMaster Murdoch, a widower (for which his wife, Ada, died giving birth to their daughter) with a 4-year-old daughter named, Maggie; and and an 27-year-old American young woman name, Carietta Elizabeth King, who happens to have an illigitimately adopted half-American Indian son, Jimmy Lame Deer.

With the latter boarding Titanic at Cherbourg, from off of Nomadic, the tender. They are with the John Jacob Astor Party, and are traveling with Margaret Tobin Brown (Molly Brown), in First Class.

I would title the story--"A Promise Kept," for which Carrie makes a promise to wee Maggie, that she will see her father again on their rescue ship, Carpathia, not in heaven...just before Lightoller sees that she's safely loaded into a lifeboat on the portside. Carrie opts to stay onboard, and close to Will...helping him load the boats, first on the starboard side of the sinking ship, and then over to the portside, to the bitter end.

Once they've been reunited with their children aboard the Carpathia, Will & Carrie decide to seek Captain Rostron out to have him reside over their marriage onboard his ship...as well as, the adoption ceremony of Jimmy officially becoming their son. Jimmy will have his foster father's good surname--MURDOCH.
