Basically we think the same thing just about. For many years after the sinking it was widely accepted that the Titanic sank in one piece, but Dr. Ballard's 1985 discovery of the wreck proved that some survivors accounts, including 2nd officer Charles Lightoller and Jack Thayer were indeed correct about the ship spitting in two. The scientists recently discovered new clues that give us insight on how the ship split in half. They found two major pieces of the double hull bottom of the ship, which when pieced together matched perfectly. By analyzing this, it shows that the stern section most likely sank alot quicker than previously thought.
