Ismay was not that bad of a guy.
I can definately see how both sides of this argument could be held, but i think that what's happened has happened. If it was wrong for him, he certainly payed the price for the rest of his life. He was asked to resign from the company he worked for (whose name completely eludes me at the moment) and was criticized for years about his decision to elude thef disaster. It [i:5c3683c620]was[/i:5c3683c620] him, however, who convinced Captain Smith to increase speed to 22.5 knots, and to alter the plans to lower the bulkheads so that the first class could have bigger staterooms. This was probably Ismay's major mistake, not the fact that he saved his own life. It is hard to believe, on the flip side, that there was no one present but Ismay to board collapsible life-boat c, as he claimed. Everyone here has very valid arguments... This is fun!!! :D |

By the way, there were a lot of other factors then the ones i blamed on Ismay earlier.
The lookouts didn't even have binoculars! The boat was ordered Full stearn (reverse), and may have hindered the possible speed of turning away. Theoretically, if Titanic had hit the Iceberg head-on, it may have sustained damage without sinking.... Sooo many reasons, so little board space... |

The lookouts had no binocs because there were none on board. The captain thought they could see enough from that hight. btw, Bruce Ismay wanted Titanic to beat Olimpic, so it was partially his fault.

good point. There a lot of "what-if's" surrounding the tragedy of the Titanic, I'll give you that. Thanx for the input!

there were binoculars on board, there was at least one pair available to the officers on the Bridege. and the binoculars for the crows nest were in there in the crows nest too, the only problem was the box they were kept in was locked and the lookouts didnt have a key. David Blair, who was origionally going to be the second officer, had the key in his pocket when he left the ship.
