[quote:a2ad0da805="bess"]there were binoculars on board, there was at least one pair available to the officers on the Bridege. and the binoculars for the crows nest were in there in the crows nest too, the only problem was the box they were kept in was locked and the lookouts didnt have a key. David Blair, who was origionally going to be the second officer, had the key in his pocket when he left the ship.[/quote:a2ad0da805]

lol, i seem to be getting everything confused, it must be because i have the Flu.
When David Blair had to leave the ship, he accidently took the key to the crows nest TELEPHONE and he also left the lookouts binoculars in his cabin. when Lightoller took over his cabin he was unaware of the fact that they were there. Fleet had asked Lightoller for them and mentioned at the inquiry that they were unable to find them.

sorry about the mistake i made above, i am ill and i didnt get it too wrong :P

I just found this little bit of info in a book.

In April 1912 Ismay's presence aboard Titanic was twofold: to observe the liner on her maiden voyage and also to visit IMM's main office in New York to discuss details of his forthcoming retirement.

I was wondering if he was really going to retire after the voyage, do you think he would have wanted to jepardize his retirement by doing something to disgrace the company like not going down with the ship?

thanks Bess,
I don't hate him either. The Titanic subject is full of passengers that some people like and some people dislike. We all have our favorites and our villians. But again, that is what makes the world go around and Discussion Groups like this one exist
