but for the time being, here is a breakdown. A water molecule's symbol is: h2o This means that there are two hydrogen atoms, and one oxygen atom in each molecule of water. Yes, there is oxygen in water, and even in ice!  |

Very interesting talk. I do agree that the berg that sank Titanic surely melted away as it drifted south. I have seen photo's of what they thought was the berg that sank her....cool stuff.

Hmm... It was April. it was a cold night, Spring was about to begin or already had. If that ice berg could live through that could it have gone past the equater and gone more south and now be part of Antarctica or maybe part of South america?*the very south part*

The iceberg was huge. At least 60 feet tall because fell on the foremast deck. I think that's what it's called. I think it would melt in the summer around the equator. It would have a long trip to Antarctica if it didn't melt. Being in the water and melting in hot weather would certainly decrease the size fast too.

Apparently, it was a warmer spring, which is, ironically, what caused more ice in the shipping lanes; warm weather allowed the ice to break off and drift south.

could the iceberg or part of it eventually sink? I can't see ice sinking, since it is less dense than water. However, with that said, since icebergs carry boulders, rocks, and dirt in them, I guess you could say that chunks this matter probably broke off with pieces of ice stuck to it. |

Has anyone seen a picture of the "possible" berg that struck Titanic?? I've seen a few photo's. I amazes me that the ice field was so immense but no one slowed the ships speed. With the earlier recorders, they have the what they ice field looked like nearby where the Titanic sank.
