The number of lifeboats could be a trick question if you want it to be. She had twenty boats all together.
But four are considered Engelhardt collapsables (not real quote-unquote "lifeboats". Furthermore, lifeboats 1 and 2 are considered "emergency boats" used for quick rescues and transportations (not real quote - unquote "lifeboats"). Lightoller and some of the other officers made these differences known in the inquiry when it came to the question of how many people could be loaded in the lifeboats generally. |

I read about this in the "Ghost of the Abyss" book. Linoleum was new technology in flooring and therefore they wanted it on the most technologically advanced ships ever built. |

Wow, this is getting to be a bit of a long post. As far as the boats go, there were 20 boats, 4 of which were the collapsibles, 1&2 could hold 40 passengers, I'm guessing 3-16 could hold about 65(?), and the Collapsibles A-D could hold 47 apiece. However, getting back to one of the earlier posts about the witnesses that saw the officer shoot himself, the book you're looking for is "The Night Lives On" by Walter Lord, written shortly after Titanic was found. A couple of the letter writers mentioned are:
Eugene Daly-Third Class George Rheims-First Class Hope this helps a couple people out. |

________________ Here's one for you... What type of distress rockets were used the nught of the sinking? (hint: this is why the mystery ship didn't respond!) |
