OK, here is one that I learned about 6 months ago.

When Murdoch ordered full astern, how many engine order telegraphs did he ring to signal the engine room?

I'll say 2 telegraphs.

That's what I always thought. Turns out that there is some evidence that three were used.

The two main engine telegraphs on each end of the bridge, and the emergency telegraph as well.

I learned this information on marconigraph.com, where testimony is examined and shown that the engine room heard more than two telegraphs sounded.

The emergency telegraph was used usually when both main units either broke a chain or stopped working. But in this case, it seems like Murdoch rang it as well to let the engine room know it was a real emergency.

I think James Cameron had Murdoch do this as well on the new movie, because the second telegraph he rings does not look like it was on the other side of the bridge, but more like the one in the middle which would be the emergency unit.

Interesting. I think in the movie though Murdoch rings just two, and I believe it was the second one(Main Engine) Moody rings when they "Take her to sea." Did you notice that too? Take a look at this....powerful scene.

Cameron shows him only ringing two telegraphs in that iceberg scene, but take a look at the video. This is cool!

The second unit he rings is the third one from the right. In the left corner of the picture is another unit (which would be the docking telegraph). Therefore, by the picture diagram from marconigraph.com I posted, that would make the second one he rang the emergency telegraph.

Tonight I will look at the "take her to sea" scene, but I think you are right, they both ring the two main engine telegraphs on each side of the bridge.

Oh ok! I see what you mean now. I never noticed the telegraph next to the first one, but you can see it when he runs over to the last one. That is cool. I love this scene obviously!!!! My favorite scene is the stokers trying to get out of the boiler room before the door closes....

Yeah, for as much as we like to bash Cameron for historical errors and putting a stupid sappy fake love story in a movie about our favorite subject, it is cool to find details from testimony that even we don't know at first.

I do love this scene, but I have to tell you, I like A Night To Remember's iceberg scene a little better. More straight forward and eerie with no dramatic music. Just the sound of the alarm bells being sounded, and the ship plowing through the water!

DEF man....I love the crash in #6 with the stokers turning around and seeing the water rushing in. The look on Barretts face was priceless. Which scene do you think was more accurate in terms of the actual damage and water pouring in? I would like to think ANTR was more accurate. I did like how we got to see the bridge and engineers and passengers reactions to the ice in Camerons movie. Obviously it was much quicker in reality.

I did like the eerie music that Cameron wrote for the movie for the collision scene and during the sinking. Nearer My God to Thee was very well done. It just can't help but make you feel sad for the reality of their situations.

I dont know which one is more acurate. I do know that on the commentary part of the ANTR DVD, Ken Marshall stated that the special affects make it look like the iceberg hits the ship in reverse.

I do like Cameron's score throughout the movie. But I do wish he would have played the British version of Nearer my God to Thee. I think it is more moving than the American, plus that is what they would have played, being a British shipping company.
