Even on ebay, depending on what it is and the rarity of the item will depend how much they get for it. Unless they put a reserve on it but if it doesn't meet the reserve they can offer the item for what they're asking for it to the highest bidder and then it's up to the highest bidder to decide if they want to pay the asking amount for it.
