It is very unlikely that they were switched but it is not a 100% impossible..I think as a Titanic historian...the theory should be researched just like all sources of the way she sank. The above is what I posted earlier in this topic. Tom |

Hi,
To be honest I dont think they were in financial trouble because since 1902 the IMM group had been the parent company of the White Star Line. IMM was owned by a rich financier named JP Morgan. Tom |

You may say that tom but it doesnt mean anything. like with todays car firms. GM one of the biggest car firms in the world who own such makers as vauxhall. they bought daewoo last year, and all thought gm is very rich daewoo was still in money troubles. just like IMM and White star. :hammer: |

It is very unlikely that the White Star Line was in financial trouble because of JP Morgan's money that was behind the line.
By 1930 the line was no longer owned by IMM and the line got into terible financial difficulties mostly due to the great depression and that resulted in the Cunard White Star merger. Tom |

Yes, but I think it would be best to sell Olympic for scrap if she was no longer seaworthy.
Switching the Olympic with Titanic then sinking their flag ship on her maiden voyage would be the worst thing that they could do to the lines publicity. Anyway Olympic was back in service by 11th November 1911 and Titanic was not ready until April. I used to have an open mind on the switch theory but I have now decided it is very unlikely. :pint: Tom |
