I note your comments but i fail to see what the connections is between the Titanic and single hulled oil tankers perhaps you could explain more fully.I fail to see how an oil tanker spilling oil on a coastline can be compaired to the tragic loss of life from the Titanic

there were less required by law. titanic actually went "over" because she had put more than she was supposed to. originally there were boats for 3,000 people but they put only put 20.

People learn from mistake it appears, Europe union also banned single hull oil carriers (lifely dangerous) after it crashed in to a rock and leaked oil which ended up on the beach....

WHY WERE THERE ONLY TWENTY LIFEBOATS FOR 2,207 PEOPLE ON BOARD THE ILL-FATED TITANIC.??
The following is an artical publish in the Daily Mirror Newspaper,A UK tabloid dated April 19th 1912 Something must be done by the Board of Trade to insist upon a larger number of lifeboats being provided for giant linners.Only twenty lifeboats were supplied by Messrs Harland and Wolf for the Titanic, and even twenty according to the Right Hon.A.M.Cralisle, the man who,as general manager to the company, was responsible for the building, was four in excess of the number required to comply with the Board of Trade regulations."As ships grew bigger i was always in favour of increasing the lifeboat accomodation," said Mr Carlisle,"yet it remains the same for a ship of 50,000 tons as for one of 10,000 tons." I have read many reports on this and apparentlly the Davits on the Titanic could have easily handled two or even three lifeboats. It beggers two questions, was cost the deciding factor for no extra boats or was it because she was deemed to be unsinkable. I don't suppose anyone will ever know the real reason ,but none the less it was a tragedy that with hind sight might have been avoided. |
