The 23 knots speed gives lie to the stories about her trying for a speed record.
Mauretania held the Blue Riband for a 1909 crossing at (I believe) 36 knots.a speed Titanic with her reciprocating engines did not have a prayer of approaching. (Mauretania was turbine powered)

On salvage rights, I think it was just that an American company applied for salvage rights and had the ability to reach the wreck. :pint:

Does that also clarify why an american company gained insalvor posession of the artifacts and that no British company concerned the artificats?

J. Bruce Ismay was managing director of White Star Lines, but the line was owned by J.P.Morgan.
J.P.Morgan was one of the world's richest men, who made most of his money in railroads, and was an American.
You can say that Titanic was a British flagged ship, but owned by American intrests.

Hi i will try and answer your questions from facts i have at hand.
First the length if Titanic was 882.5 feet She displaced 66,000 tons speed was 24 - 25 knots. a total of 2,230 passengers were onboard she had 20 lifeboats with a capacity for 1,178 pasengers.
Owner Thomas Henry Ismay.
the height from the boat deck to sea was approx 60 feet,
Titanic cost fully equiped was £1,500,000 or about $7,500,000.

hi ...the length of the ship was 882ft 9 inches, the height from the waterline to the boat deck was 60ft 6 inches the widthwas 92ft 6 inches cruising spped was 23 to 24 knots good luck
