I have heard that there is only piece of motion footage of the Titanic? Is this correct? For years, like others I have believed that footage shown in documentries etc were of the actualTitanic, unless pointed out. Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me? Thank you.

Most of the footage you see on newsclips is actually of the olympic. To the utrained eye the olympic and Titanic were identical.

In 1912 there was only a limited amount of motion clips of the Titanic.
So photographers filmed the Olympic. If you take notice of the so called Titanic in port in some vids you will see a white scratch over the name on the back of the tugs which were moving the vesel. This is because most of them had New york written on them. The port Titanic never reached.

So just look out for subtle diffrences, like the promanade deck features, The plating behind the anchors and above all the plating on the entire hull. You will find Titanic was "skinned" in a completley diffrent way to the Olympic.

Hope this helps.
If not pm me and i'll try to help some more.
Thanks all.
Best wishes.
Shaun.

Yeah it gets confusing to see so much footage of the Olympic. I have often wondered why there was not a heaps of footage of the great lady herself....god when I first started liking the Titanic I thought the footage used at the start of A NIGHT TO REMEMBER with the wine bottle being broken was real. Little did I know... Thank you for your help.
