No idea on what deck that first picture is. But look, I found some more information for you.
A special feature of Titanic's arrangements, innovative for that time, was the installation of four electric elevators incorperated into the main companionways for First and Second-Class passengers. The elevators were manufactured and installed by Otis Elevator Company. The original plan was for two electric elevators only. Two extra elevators were added making a total of four, three for First-Class and one for Second-Class. Each elevator had it's own operating attendant. The First-Class elevators went from A - Deck (Promenade - Deck) to D - Deck with enterances at each level. The elevators were just under the 'Grand Staircase' forward. The Second-Class elevator extended only from the Boat - Deck to E - Deck. The elevator was located in the centre of the staircase. The Second-Class forward staircase ran from the Boat - Deck to E - Deck with the elevator in the middle of the two flights of stairs. Lift attendants: Mr. Fred Allan, age 17. Mr. William Carney, age 31. (Recovered body #251) Mr. A. King, age 18. Mr. R.J. Pacey, age 17. (None of the lift attendants survived the sinking of the Titanic) |

Wasn't there a younger lift attendant? Maybe 15 or 16. I remember Lawrence Beesley wrote in his "Sinking of the SS Titianc" that he talked of a lift attendant who was very young. Around that age.

I dunno ... maybe he talked of a 17-year-old that looked very young... I don't think he went there and asked: "Well, this ship will sink and I'm going to write a book about it. So tell me, how old are you?"

I forget what chapter that was in, but I reading that somewhere in that book. I'll see if I can find it again, but I try not to handle the book too much. The oils in your hands/skin tends to ruin the pages. It was a christmas gift I got last year(ok I thought it was a reprint 'til I saw the 1912 copyright on the page ), and I've only read through it once. Anyway I'll see if I can find it again. Oh the one at my colleges library is a white paperback one. I don't remember what chapter but I recall him saying something like "He couldn't have been more than 15/16." Then the kid seeing children playing and commenting to Lawrence "I wish I could go out there." Then he speaks of what a bright young lad he was....He may have said 17 though.
