Yeah she is huge, but as for her design, she looks like a cruise ship, nothing like the grand old atlantic liners, it's a shame. I mean a know they cant make a ship look like Titanic unless there purposly trying to to a new one of her, but atleast take sum styling que's people, Qm2 is not a good looking ship, there is no flare.

Yeah it is actually, Normandie was quite evolutionary in its hull design, where as the Queen Mary was more old fashioned. I think the bow of the Normandie and Queen mary2 are similar because, they allow for greater evasion of objects. So if it was a good idea in the 1930s when it was built, principles still hold true in 2003 when Queen Mary 2 was built.

Yes, and indeed it must have been a shameful sight to see that beautiful ship ruined on her side. Apparently the war on the Atlantic was in full motion and the Normandie had to lay on her side for three years before they righted her and sold her for scrap. The bow of the new QM2 is rather similar to the Normandie's.

Apparently, this happened during the re fitting out, so she could be a troop ship in WW2. As far as I have seen it was the fault of incompetence of some American officer's that would not listen to the ship's designer his Idea would only result in some damage, to fittings, that where going to be taken out anyway, the ship was in dock, so it wouldn’t matter about filling it with water. I think the water used to put out the fire, was not evenly spaced through the ship, they concentrated on one side mostly. So the tipping over was not all that unlikely, as far as laws of physics are concerened, and of cource maths.
Really is to bad, it was some ship, but it did mean Cunard had won the battle between The Normandie, and the Queen mary. |

As far as I know, her demise was tradgic. She wen't on fire and tipped over and that was what lead her to her demise. However as far as I know, the Normandies designer told the fire men to do something, they did not listen to him and Normandie foundered.
I'll give a more detailed report soon Cya |
