That's an excellent point, Betty, and one I've never heard before - it keeps the ship alive in the imagination that way. Veerrry interesting.

Actually, [i:f2fd7516e2]Titanic[/i:f2fd7516e2] or something similar was bound to happen, given the mindset of the times, etc. It happened when it did mostly because going into an ice field at full speed is not the brightest thing in the world to do - but because of the communications systems in place at the time, this wasn't widely known, as when you didn't come back, no one knew why.

Hi All
I have just joined here and I'm glad to find some people I can talk to about Titanic. All I have to say is that there are too many 'What ifs'? surrounding Titanic. 'What If'? Everybody within its time and society didn't state Titanic as 'Unsinkable'. 'What If' The board Of Trade Regulations for Lifeboats were changed. 'What if' the lifeboats were filled then more people could have been saved and the list goes on. It's a tragedy that happened in a society that was divided much more than we are today. Hopefully, mankind learned a lesson. After Titanic lifeguards etc. were brought out and regulations were changed. A few good things that doesn't make up for the amount of lives lost. Let me know your views. Keep Smiling. Nat |
