Bess,
You always seem to come up with useful suggestions. I went to the site you mentioned and it did indeed have useful information. I want to clarify one thing that Mitsy said in her initial post, the CSS Alabama was acutally built in the Liverpool shipyards of John Laird Sons and Company, and she was commissioned by number rather than name to avoid the ire of the Northern Military of the Americas of that time. Thanks for the info. Teamtunafish, I did try Ask Jeeves, and believe it or not, got the same website mentioned by Bess. The site did mention that Samuel Risien was a member of her crew, but could not give documentation supporting that assertion. Thanks to all who help, or at least try. Will |

Try some of the Cicvil War forums, Mitzy. There are a ton of them out there, and also any number about the [i:664636e315]Alabama[/i:664636e315] per se. Google it, or go to Ask Jeeves is my suggestion.

I am doing research on Samuel Risien and have read that he served aboard the CSS Alabama during the American Civil War. This confused me until I found out that the CSS Alabama was built in Southhampton and its port of call was Southhampton. Could anyone document that Samuel Risien was ever aboard the CSS Alabama? Thanks in advance, Mitsy.
