And i have never heard this story either, but still, often a human emotion to blame oneself when in fact, they had no control over the said event's. tragic, |

The story is true..it was my great grandmother..Rita "The Lightbulb" Cornell..She blamed herself for the Titanic sinking for 50 years...she committed suicide in 1967..she bought the Brooklyn Bridge by mistake.

Salaam, Echo.
I've been researching the Titanic for 35 years and have never heard any mention of such a story. It has all the earmarks of a convenient tale that was fabricated merely to illustrate a point. Achmet |

Hello all!
I heard an apocryphal(?) story about the Titanic, and I wasn't sure whether or not it was true, or where I could find any documentation of it. The gist of it was that one of the passengers turned out the light in her room just as the Titanic struck the iceberg - forever after that moment, she was convinced that she had *caused* the ship to strike the iceberg by flipping the light switch. I've seen the example used in order to illustrate a logical fallacy, but I didn't know if it was real or not. Does anyone know if there's any proof out there of this having happened? Best, echo |
